Finance Pro Vivian Tu Spills on Her Smartest Prime Day Finds
As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you'll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.
The Expert Edit features interviews with specialists about the products they swear by in their chosen field. For the latest installment, we spoke to former Wall Street trader turned personal finance expert, Vivian Tu, about her Amazon Prime Day product recommendations, including her personal product picks.
If you've ever wondered who to turn to for financial advice, look no further than Vivian Tu. She's a former Wall Street trader turned personal finance expert (known as Your Rich BFF), who got her start at BuzzFeed, of all places. "My coworkers started coming up to me and asking for personal finance advice," says Tu. "Eventually, I was convinced to start putting those pieces of advice into videos on the internet. The first video went viral, got three million views, and I never looked back."
Tu, 30, now spends her days creating digestible financial content across social media and sharing insights on her podcast "Networth and Chill." "Most financial advice is literally designed to make other people money — not you," says Tu.
"I started my career on Wall Street helping make rich people even richer, but with Your Rich BFF, I get to help make regular, everyday people richer."
"I started my career on Wall Street helping make rich people even richer, but with Your Rich BFF, I get to help make regular, everyday people richer."
Her biggest achievement to date? Her bestselling book "Rich AF," which debuted in 2023 and quickly became a New York Times bestseller. "It's one of the things I'm most proud of," says Tu. "More people are now able to completely change their financial futures for the better."
Knowing Tu to be the financial powerhouse that she is, we had to get her take on Amazon Prime Day — not just for the sake of our wallets, but also to see what she's personally buying and what deals she thinks are worth it. Vivian Tu's Favorite Hair Brush
Wet Brush Original Detangler Hair Brush ($6, originally $16)
There's nothing worse than discovering a rat's nest in your hair after a dip in the pool or a post-shower rinse, but this brush makes detangling so much easier. "A great brush that won't rip your hair out," says Tu. While it's already budget-friendly, it's still worth grabbing if you're just now hearing about it. It works wonders. Read our Wet Brush Original Detangler Hair Brush review for more.
Editor Quote: "The brush glides through my hair without snagging and miraculously never tears it out of my head. What looks like an ordinary plastic hairbrush has finally cured my ragged, split-end-filled hair." — Sarah Siegel, former assistant editor, Beauty

I fully plan on continuing to purchase this mask and use it once a week, especially the night before a date or a special event." — Renee Rodriguez, staff writer and social producer, Beauty
Vivian Tu's Favorite Micellar Water
Garnier Micellar Water ($8, originally $12)
If you watched any YouTuber back in the day, chances are you've seen them using micellar cleansing water to remove face and eye makeup — it lifts makeup off seamlessly. "I get my makeup done a lot, and this micellar water works super well to remove it without irritating my skin," says Tu. It's a great deal, especially at 34 percent off.
Vivian Tu's Favorite Lip Mask
Laneige Vanilla Lip Sleeping Mask ($19, originally $24)
"I love a good lip mask, and this one lives in my nightstand. I use it every night to keep away the crusties," says Tu. This mask has been a top-seller during past Amazon Prime Days, so we're not surprised it made her list. If you're a frequent user, the cost can add up — so definitely grab it while it's on sale. Read our review of the Laneige Lip Sleep Mask for more.
Editor Quote: "The tiniest amount goes a long way, so even with multiple applications daily, it lasts a while." — Anvita Reddy, former assistant editor, Shopping
Vivian Tu's Favorite Hand Sanitizer
Touchland Power Mist Hydrating Hand Sanitizer Spray ($21, originally $30)
If we learned anything from 2020, it's to wash our hands (and maybe hum "Happy Birthday" while doing it). But if you're on the go and need to kill germs after pumping gas or riding the train, this sanitizer is a great option. "You can never be too protected from germs!" shares Tu. Available in three scents that smell utterly delicious, it's definitely worth picking up while it's on sale. Read our Touchland Hand Sanitizer review for more.
Editor Quote: "Its lightweight formula doesn't leave my hands feeling sticky. But besides being an effective hand sanitizer, I also appreciate that the cool bottles can be left around the house without looking totally ugly. It's a nice change." — Macy Cate Williams, former content director, Shopping
Vivian Tu's Favorite Sunscreen
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen ($30, originally $38)
Tu isn't a stranger to sunny weather, which is why she has a strong preference when it comes to sunscreen. "As someone who lives in Miami, a good sunscreen is a must! This one from Supergoop works amazingly and doesn't feel overly greasy," she says. It applies clear and is made with clean ingredients, so you don't have to worry about what's going on your face — or how it looks. It rarely goes on sale, so now's your chance to snag it. Read our Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen review for more.
Editor Quote: "I smeared it on with my fingertips and found it absorbed within seconds. It feels hydrating immediately upon application thanks to hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5, but not greasy or wet like the sunscreen you grew up slathering on before pool days." — Jessica Harrington, senior editor, Beauty
Vivian Tu's Favorite Teeth Whitener
Crest 3D Whitestrips Sensitive At-Home Teeth Whitening Kit ($30, originally $50)
Tu and I can both agree on the power of Crest Whitening Strips. "People always ask me how I get my teeth so white — it's these strips!" says Tu. "I've been using them for years. Plus, they don't make my teeth overly sensitive." Available in a pack of 18 treatments, you can count on these to gently and safely remove stains effectively. And at 40 percent off? You really can't go wrong. Read our Crest Whitestrips review for more.
Editor Quote: "After just four treatments, the difference is already remarkable. The "before" image on the left and the "after" image on the right clearly shows the noticeable change. And I've barely made a dent in the box with plenty of treatments left." — Marisa Petrarca, contributing editor, Shopping
Vivian Tu's Favorite Hair Loss Supplements
Nutrafol Women's Balance Hair Growth Supplements ($70, originally $88)
Listen, not all of us have the thickest, shiniest, most perfect hair you see on celebrities, OK? Especially if you're dealing with chronic stress or hormonal changes. But Nutrafol can actually help with that. "I've been taking Nutrafol for years to help keep my hair looking and feeling its best," Tu reveals. It's not cheap, so if you're looking to restock (or try it out for the first time), this deal is worth jumping on.
Vivian Tu's Favorite Massage Gun
TheraGun Therabody Relief ($144, originally $160)
There's nothing worse than the aches and pains that follow doing something good for yourself — like crushing a workout at the gym. This tool helps relax your muscles and relieve tension, stiffness, and discomfort. "My husband bought this for me, and as I've developed more of a strength training routine, I cannot function without it!" says Tu. It's no secret that this is a bit of an investment, which is why, when it's on sale, you'll want to grab it fast. Read our Therabody Theragun review for more.
Editor Quote: "I like the ergonomic, triangular shape of the Theragun, which makes it easy to change your grip when targeting certain areas without triggering any pain in the wrist, forearm, or shoulder girdle." — Jade Esmeralda, former staff writer, Health and Fitness
